Cnews.KZ reports with a reference to ITDay, a new MacCentre will be opened in Bishkek in February 2008. In this centre visitors will be able to learn and use Apple products before they buy. The centre staff, who will be trained in Apple in Russia, will be helping customers in choosing Appple products. Goods bought at the MacCentre will be covered by world Apple warranty and authorized service centre.

Apple and its products, like Macintosh PC and notebooks, iPhone, etc. are well-known world brands, but are not widely used in Kyrgyzstan. Only few users, mostly came from abroad, and specialists involved in graphics design use Apple products. The opening of this centre will promote the dissemination of Apple products in Kyrgyzstan . Also, MacCentres are known for its learning showrooms for its visitors and potential customers, and having such centre in Bishkek might change the customer service level in Kyrgyzstan.

Much though I love my Mac, I’m not convinced Macs will take off in Kyrgyzstan just yet.

Even in the UK Macs are a niche market and one pays quite a premimum for it. In my experience, when they work they are fantastic, but when something goes wrong Apple is not always the most helpful - like any big business I suspect. There’s also the challenge of getting people to switch from Windows - yes, Mac OS is very intuitive and easy to learn, but it still takes time to adjust.

At the same time, the Mac Centre, with its emphasis on hands on learning, sounds great and if it takes off would be a really positive development.

Has anyone heard anything more about this? Do we know whether the MacCentre has opened yet or where it is located? If anyone has any info, please email me: jason(at)zplus.kg. Thanks!

Thanks. This is helpful. I have a colleague in Bishkek, and I am pleased to hear he has access to the store.
