New deputies get cars and flats
During the parliament session, Adahan Madumarov, Speaker of Parliament has announced that all elderly deputies and women should be provided with official cars from now and on, informs AKIpress. He says:
The oldest deputies, such as Beishenbek Akunov from the Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan, Ernst Akramov and Sharipa Sadybakasova from Ak Zhol party and all women should be supplied with cars since today.
The only exception would be the deputy Nikolay Bailo who turned 60 recently. He won’t get a car as he is the chair of the parliamentary committee and has a car already.
Adahan Madumarov also said that the flats would be given to those deputies who have no place to live in the capital city. 27 applications were received requesting a flat.
As I wrote earlier, the parliamentary elections of December 2007 have spurred lots of negative criticism over the way they were conducted. People were concerned over the legitimacy and openness of the elections. Almost one month later, most human rights organizations believe that the results are fake and the newly elected Parliament is illegitimate. Human rights activists refuse to call these members deputies, rather they suggest calling them as “persons who sit in Parliament”.
Diana Makenbaeva, the representative of the human rigths group “Citizens Against Corruption” said such “terminological war” will end only after all court proceedings concerning the results of the elections are over.
