Bishkek - is it the real face of Kyrgyzstan???

The rules of capitalism draw some paths which are followed by developing countries! It is not a secret that our economy tries to reach some higher level, and sure it does. However, unfortunately it involves the mistakes that could be avoided! The so-called mistakes are the problems arising from the steps the people, regardless of their posts, make. It does not matter whoever makes those steps. Let them be deputies, businessmen, students, those who are in search of jobs, etc.; it seems that the life style in Bishkek resembles those in some megacities of developed countries!

One may think: “It is cool, why not to have that style in our capital city too???” Many people probably will agree him, and I would as well, but partially! I spent this summer in Kyrgyzstan, and mostly I was surprised by Bishkek - the city, having more cars then ever, becoming denser for uncontrolled immigration of people and business… When I entered the city before it hosted SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) summit I was surprised and felt proud of our administration and of people walking around! Police officers were everywhere and they were urging those who violated the rules in the street, some ”kiosques” were cleared away, in stead of graffiti masterpieces people could admire the walls that were of one color…

Anyone, who visits the city for the first time, would be satisfied and would prefer to stay in it.

Despite the whole attempt to beautify the city, its real face appeared after the Summit left its history on front pages of newspapers!!! No sooner delegacies left, those kind and, at the same time, strict police officers disappeared. The stream of the life was set to the previous paths; some people rushing across the roads, waste-bins were overfilled, the walls regained their accustomed colors. In short, Bishkek was back again.

As for the local people, I was surprised, firstly, by the youth. Most of them were preoccupied by the interests that would satisfy their short-time desire. It’s not that difficult to understand what kind of pleasures I mean! Most of them were working in order to get some money for the trip to Issyk-Kul, to spend one or another night at different clubs. Guys are from different regions, but sharing the same hunger. Definitely, it’s wrong to blame them only. If we are to search the absolute guilty ones, it will be senseless. It’s very clear that students (the youth) could be motivated by the universities, or by the Ministry of Education, or by some scholarship centers. For sure, they are making efforts for the sake of students; but, what lacks is the wide and EQUAL distribution of the information favorable to the students! Why I did  emphasize the word “equal” is not that hard to understand? :)

Finally, the reason I mentioned more about the students is that in the future they will hold some posts, some will become merchants, etc. Whoever they are, the city-which is assumed to be the heart of our country, must have an adequate face!!!

Indeed, you are very right, man!! I am also deeply worried about our youth, their life style, behaviour, priorities and way of thinking.
Education, both scientifically and culturally, is the most important element in the state’s policy. If you, as a state, are not able to succeed it—then you will lose them, and as a sequence you will lose the future of your country.
I hope that our government and NGOs will contribute more to this extremelly important issue.

Let us say that it is PART of the reality in Kyrgyzstan but not ‘the coun try’. Good question. Because many foreigners judge Kyr on the bases of what they see in Bishkek-Sodom.

It’s the same in Kaz too: the only thing visitors often see is the glitter and façade in the centre of Almaty and Astana, not the wider reality outside of Almaty’s centre and in the provinces.

It is true either. However, foreigners will judge according to the cities they visit! Usually they are the capitals of any country. Even, if the citizens of KR does something wrong abroad, local people tell that people from Kyrgyzstan a like him, or her. I agree that it is not fair, but…
