Green Party held a rally despite mayor’s ban
This is just an update to one of my previous posts about the Green Party that was going to hold a rally on the central square Alatoo in Bishkek city and the newly appointed Acting mayor Daniar Usenov did not allow the rally saying that there is another event planned for this day. The rally’s reason was to protest against price rise for food products and utilities and to support people of the country. However, despite the ban of the city mayor, the Green Party decided to hold a rally and about 20 supporters of the Greens Party led by the party’s leader Erkin Bulekbaev arrived to the central square. The party planned to gather about 300 people in the support of the rally. But people were not allowed to go to the square, the police blocked the roads to the central square and it is said that 2 people from the party were detained. The bus full of the party’s equipment and other materials was also detained by the police. Erkin Bulekbaev comments (AKIpress):
“Despite mayor’s recommendation to hold the rally in another place or on other date, the party made a decision to hold the rally on Oct 19 at Alatoo central square as we planned. The mayor’s office did not announce of any events planned at the square earlier. We should abide by the law”.
The party leader was also very critical of the President Bakiev and spoke against the Referendum of 21 October.
