First protest of the season
The Green Party of Kyrgyzstan is planning to hold a rally at Alatoo central square from 12.00 till 18.00 on October 19 to protest against recent dramatic price increase and protect Kyrgyzstan citizens from price rise for food products and utilities. The Party submitted its request for permission to the Mayor’s Office and Bishkek City Police Department.
However, during the ‘Maidan’ program of one of the local television channels, newly appointed acting mayor of Bishkek Daniar Usenov said that he cannot give his permission because of already planned celebration of students’ day at the square and upcoming referendum. He also added that the party can hold its rally in the park named after Gorky or postpone it until 26 October. The party can appeal it in the court if does not agree with the decision he made.
“I cannot allow the party members to cause inconvenience on the roads of the city on Friday when people rush to work. Our roads are already full of traffic. It is high time to stop turning Bishkek into the arena of political combats”. As a citizen I am already tired of it”, Usenov says. He plans to create a youth park with all the necessary equipment where everyone who wishes can protest whenever he wants to.
Will it stop the Green Party from protesting?
