In spite of the fact that the prices have been tremendously increasing for almost all vital food products, The President Kurmanbek Bakiev seems to be very optimistic and keeps surprising people with his unrealistic statements regarding the current and future situation in Kyrgyzstan. On the 19th of September, the President K. Bakiev gave his speech addressed to people of the country. During two and a half year of his tenure, he believes that major changes happened that played a determinate role in the fate of the country. The economy of the country grows at such a rapid rate during 2007. The volume of capital invested in the economy is growing and the export potential of the republic is increasing. The budget rapidly increased which allowed timely payment of pensions and wage increase. The massive structural reforms are beginning to happen. Here he meant huge investment projects in power supply. All conditions to attract big private investors have been created for the first time.

He then proposed three most important ways of development of the country.
1. Reaching a consensus on state structure on the basis of increase of responsibility and participation of political forces in society management;
2. Strengthening the state and efficiency of state management and state services
3. Giving a powerful incentive for economic development on the basis of transition to more open, fair and unified economic rules and orientation for big projects

The speech and his proposed solutions do not offer concrete strategy and plan; it’s all vague and unclear. There is no chance of fair and open economic rules to exist when economy gets ruled by family and clan privatization.

Yesterday our President made another positive statement about the country’s future during the meeting with students and professors of Bishkek’s universities. He believes that in 15 years the standard of life in Kyrgyzstan will not be lower than the average one. He then again points out main achievements in the economic sphere, such as huge investments, export growth and etc. People might be too tired to wait for another 15 years for their lives to be improved, they want to live a good life now…
