Internet Humor “Made in KG”
Editor’s note: Thispost is part of neweurasia’s cross-blog survey about humour in Central Asia.
Since there are only few original Kyrgyzstan Internet sources devoted to humor, jokes, anecdotes, and etc, foreign humor websites, mostly Russian, are very popular. There are some entertainment websites, but they contain not only some jokes and funny stories, but stuff like leisure, dating, etc. However, with the growing availability of Internet access, mobile phones with camcorders and cameras, more funny stuff related or made in Kyrgyzstan have been created.
I think that the availability of Internet has played great role since it gives an opportunity not only for downloading fun stuff, but it also serves as means of distributing one’s creative stuff. It encouraged some talented persons to create fun stuff, like songs, pictures, jokes. In addition, the significant number of people emigrated from Kyrgyzstan, and they are constantly looking for video and audio materials related to the home country.
The March events of 2005, so called tulip revolution, and regular political demonstrations and meetings have made the politics quite popular theme of humor. A lot of jokes, song remakes, and funny pictures making fun of former and current politicians were created. One of the remakes is available on “KP in Bishkek” website which was done after last year’s November meetings. Recently, www.video.kg put of what parliamentarians funny moments during their sessions,
and mix of popular Russian criminals movie soundtrack with Kyrgyz politicians real video.
Unfortunately, some Kyrgyz websites have very limited Internet bandwidth outside of KG zone. Also, funny stuff about Kyrgyzstan can be found on forums, like Diesel Elcat, torrent.kg. It is pretty difficult to find a humor stuff in Kyrgyz language, since overall the Internet resources in Kyrgyz language are relatively small.
