Kyrgyz Football issues

Posted by Asel | in Media, Sport | on September 16th, 2007

The official Kyrgyzstan Football Federation website announced that the Kyrgyzstan national football team had no sufficient financial recourses and could not afford going overseas to play in qualifying games for the World Cup 2010. The financial help is wanted the bank account number is published, where money can be transferred. These news were also published by popular Russian sports websites. Perhaps, Kyrgyzstan would be the only country, which would not play due to financial problems.

I think there are several major problems which slow down the development of football in Kyrgyzstan, and cause the above-mentioned problems in particular. First of all, the football in Kyrgyzstan is not very popular, like in other countries. In fact, the Kyrgyz football is not popular, while Western European and Russian football are quite popular. Teenagers prefer to train with marital arts, rather than football, or any other collective kinds of sports. Another reason I think the Football Federation of Kyrgyzstan does not work very effectively, and its activities, expenditures are not transparent. It could have spent money given by FIFA more wisely, especially by cutting administration costs. Of course, there are many other problems which should be resolved. Hopefully, the Kyrgyz national football team will find necessary financial resources and will qualify to the World Cup 2010.

The good news, according to the 24.kg website, the Kyrgyz State Television and Radio Company obtained the license to show the Champions League games, the most prestigious football competition in Europe. It is really great news, since these games are usually shown in private cable TV channels. Probably, it will disseminate the popularity of football in Kyrgyzstan.
