One of the best, and less immediately noticeable, features of State History Museum in Bishkek has to be the murals on the ceilings, which portray aspects of Soviet history and Kyrgyz traditions. Although the lighting in the museum is a little dim, the ceilings display almost as much information as the exhibits themselves in many cases.
These photos show sections of a mural of Soviet citizens, including, of course, Kyrgyz men, women and children, demonstrating against nuclear weapons, which in this case have been ideologically linked to the USA.
Sadly parts of the murals are showing signs of suffering from damp, but they are still fascinating to look at, especially for the ideological history that they illustrate so vividly.

Gorgeous. I was about to fall when I saw the ones in the history museum back in 1999, was new to Kyrgyzstan and did not realize that some parts of the Soviet history were not destroyed…

Nice!
I’ve been to that museum, but I think I must have been so absent-minded I didn’t really notice how interesting these pictures really are.
I’ll go again next week - thanks to you! : )
