This is a translation of the post by Inga, that originally appeared on the russian version of neweurasia.

“In order to make a bomb at home, you’ll need some acetone, sulphuric acid and hydrogen peroxide. Acetone and hydrogen peroxide you can be found in any drug store. Now you are all set for making your explosive device. ”

This is a paragraph from the manual with the title “For terrorists-beginners”. An electronic version of this book on 2 CDs ,which is called “Big Pocket Library”,is available to anyone in Bishkek these days.

Today bookstores in the capital offer a whole variety of electronic versions of different books. The “Big pocket Library” is the most popular reading among teenagers in Bishkek. It comprises 5500 different texts, covering literally every possible topic and activity. Here you can find, for instance, the notes of Vladimir Lenin, the full version of Kama Sutra and some recommendations on how to commit suicide.

“Just look at this thing,”- whistles Azamat with excitement,-“you’ve got everything here. I bought this CD to be fully educated in all spheres of life.I especially like the description of bomb making techniques. Everything is very clear, plus all ingredients are cheap.”

Yeap, it’s really clear.Making a bomb even seems to be easy. But, for some reaso, I’m terrified. It turns out that everyone can give it a try and … succeed.

“Atay, why, do you think, they publish such manuals?”-I asked this 14 year old boy.

“Why?”-he replies,-“in order to coach people on how to make and blow bombs in crowded places. The ideal place for that would a busy marketplace.”

Now I’m shocked. Indeed, I never realized before, that our teenagers were so well prepared for making explosives and already got clear ideas about where they could use them. There could be a number of targets in this case- teachers, classmates, probably, even parents. There are can be a whole bunch of reasons for that- bad mood, bad exams’ mark, may be the lack of money to buy ice- cream.

The danger seems to be obvious. Or am I just exaggerating? Electronic libraries’ popularity is growing not only amonge teens, but also among adults, who are addicted to internet and computers and prefer reading electronic books, rather than going to real libraries. It’s simple, cheap and convenient. No one really cares, that the majority of those CDs are just bootleg copies. Consumers in Kyrgyzstan already got used to this.

According to booksellers, it is exactly those bootleg copies that are extremely popular today. They cost around $5 each, whereas the price of books, which content is normally compressed on such CDs, is 2-3 times higher.

“I don’t care whether this disc is licensed or not,”-says Valery, who is 20. “I’m interested in getting lots of information. I want to be able to read fiction and novels, not paying a fortune for that. I also don’t mind some terrorism manuals. CD now is the most convenient invention, that can help you to discover so many things.”

Well, indeed, you can discover many interesting things using those “electronic libraries”. Do you know, for instance, which day is the most convenient for committing suicides? If you are ignorant in suicidal techniques just open the file number 227, which is entitled “Selected suicide methods”. Here you will read :

“It’s better to schedule your suicide for Friday. You need to tell your friends and relatives that you’ll be away till next Monday. It will guarantee that no one will be concerned about your absence for 3 days, you’ll be let alone and can pass away without anyone’s interference.”

So do you still want to buy those CDs? O’K, than I’ll share with you some “comforting” prognosis of a psychoanalyst Mavluda Usupova, who thinks, that the consequences of reading such manuals can be quite alerting. She states:

“Getting such information can tremendously influence you mood and mindset. You can even start thinking of implementing ideas from such manual. The phenomenon is that teenagers wouldn’t realize the danger. They would normally perceive it as a game, thinking that if it was written by someone and published as a book, it can not have any bad consequences. ”

According to psychologists, it is exactly those manuals, describing how to do “ a whole variety of things” ,that are widely used in coaching fascists and religious zealots, that are well equipped to fulfill the Task. The question here, though, is why the State is being so negligent, allowing to openly buy and sell such “electronic libraries”.
