Serial killer in Bishkek
This is a translation of the post that originally appeared in Russian on the Russian version of neweurasia

It turned out that it was too early to sigh with relief after all disturbances connected with the rally of the Kyrgyz opposition got calmed down. We hardly had enough time to get our feet back under us when another shocking news stirred the capital of Kyrgyzstan: serial killer all of a sudden occurred in Bishkek.
Hardly anything like that happened before in the city: last week the rumor was spread that someone was stabbed to death at the stairs of the own apartment building. With more details coming it was getting scarier: after only 4 nights 7 people were attacked, with 3 of them left dead after the killer’s attack.
The main area of the maniac’s activity were several microdistricts in the south of Bishkek, the time of his attacks- mainly late evenings and nights, the weapon he used was a knife. After the first homicide took place there were only rumors around, Internet users were exchanging bits and pieces of information but, obviously, it was not enough for those frightened. Amidst the panic and after 3 days of uncertainty the police has finally released some facts, including the picture of the suspect.
It turned out, thus, that the law enforcement bodies ended up looking for a “young Asian looking man, 20-25 years old, wearing dark sport suit and speaking Russian with a strong Kyrgyz accent”. To tell you the truth, this was not much of help for alerted Bishkek inhabitants as every second new comer perfectly fits this description. By the way, after the scandalous rally of the opposition last week Kyrgyz capital got inundated by such “dark” persons, wandering around the city. In general it doesn’t feel good to leave your house these days.
Yesterday, the police started inspecting all apartment buildings in the microdistricts of Bishkek, gathering information all tenants. It is still not clear what the point of this inspection was. All tenants already felt like erecting barricades to not let strangers in. With fears growing even the police looks suspicious nowadays.
I personally took a risk of answering the door when a couple of policemen showed up yesterday. They turned out to be sweet but tired guys. For 10 minutes they were urging me to open the door, than showed a microscopic picture featuring the suspect with and without a hat, than put my name into the list and advised not to answer the door when strangers would knock. After they left I felt really weird – after all I opened the door to a couple of strangers.
Today something incredible happened in the microdistrict: they fixed the streetlights that have not been working for year. I guess now we should feel more protected.
P..S. Today they also released two additional pics of the suspect. Trying to compare them with the first variant I came across an idea that all 3 are different. Whom should we chase at all, than?

If only to relay rumors laid upon rumors… I’ve met a few people who believe that the serial killer is a government invention to get people’s mind off the recent political activity. Seems a bit heavy-handed on either end, for both the govt and those who believe and circulate such notions.
The killer has recently been caught, but rumors fly that this is the work of a ‘gang of four’ - thus the multiple possible likenesses? TV reports also didn’t show any footage of the apprehended killer, so there are plenty of doubters.
