EKOIS project and blog

Blogging is continuing to grow in popularity in Kyrgyzstan, not only as a forum for individuals, but also for specific topics and projects, often with support from abroad.

The Dutch NGO Milieukontakt International supported EKOIS project, which focuses on the development of long-term cooperation between environmental NGOs in Kyrgyzstan, is one such example. The project’s homepage takes the form of a blog, where announcements, articles of interest and news are posted. So far information is overwhelmingly in Russian, as well as a small number of posts in Kyrgyz and English respectively. One shortcoming of the site at the present time for non-Russian speakers is the lack of translated material, although links are provided to automatic online translation services.

As well as providing an e-information point and contact hub for environmental NGOs both in Kyrgyzstan and further afield, the project’s start up strategy also highlights the aim of raising international awareness of environmental issues in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The site also has links to analytical articles on environmental issues, other sites with relevant information about Kyrgyzstan, and other NGOs and projects in the republic.

The site will be included in round ups of the Kyrgyzstani blogosphere over on the Russian version of the New Eurasia Kyrgyzstan blog.

New Eurasia is not connected with EKOIS in any way.
